Get a Room With Carson & Thom premiered with a bang (tune in Fridays at 9/8c), and there were a lot of design details for us to absorb — Chandeliers! Velvet wallpaper! Curved sofas! Man grottos! But what really had us re-thinking our own home décor choices were the curtains in both clients’ homes that ended up being showstoppers … for completely different reasons.
In the first home they were designing, Carson Kressley and Thom Felicia’s client wanted a 1970s-inspired room, and to anchor the space Carson chose bright orange floor-to-ceiling curtains, hanging from a white rod with gold clips and puddled on the floor. Despite Carson initially second-guessing the color, he ended up loving it — as did his client, psychic Zenobia! (Watch the video above to see more.)
In the second home, Thom chose a muted curtain with a delicate pattern to cover the main room’s many windows and doors — a choice that their client Sherrie was initially not feeling. At all. “My first knee jerk was what’s the return policy?” she told Thom and Carson.
Fast forward to the full room reveal and Sherrie and her husband Dave were overwhelmed with excitement over the finished product (yes, including the patterned curtains!). "I think they're beautiful now and they just blend in so perfectly with everything you've gotten ... I get it now," Sherrie gushed.
What inspired us here at Home & Design was both routes when it comes to curtains — an over-the-top statement, and a subtle, texture-adding neutral. Below we found three of each for you to shop and zhush up your own space, just as if Carson and Thom were doing it for you. Cheers!
